AmCham CSR Committee had an inspiring meeting with Victor Calise, Senior Walmart Executive. Participants discussed “Practical Steps to Recruit and Represent Disabled Person”, on October 2, 2024.
” I was a plummer – a blue collar worker aboslutely happy with my profession.
Then 30 year ago a tree fell on my back and paralized my legs. First I thought it was the end of my life.
Then I thought what to do and I received a wheelchair, went to study, even started to do sport for disabled- all supported by the goverment leveraged by the American Disability act.
And my life has completely changed to better.
In addition to my visible disability I have ADHD and dislexia.
My problem is I always say ” Yes” , so I start crazy projects including transofming NY yellow taxi for people with disabilities. This was hugely unliked by a NY mayor Bloomberg. Finally, two years ago I came to work in Walmart. We are number 1 of Fortune 500 in revenue. We are bigger than some countries. We employ 1.1 million people . We are at 19 countries.
Our goal in the Walmart is to safe people’s money so they are better” Victor Calise, Senior Walmart Executive
